Upper Lough Erne

FOR 2025 WE MOVE TO A NEW VENUE “UPPER LOUGH ERNE”
After 13 years on Lough Derg it was time to move on and we did!

Lough Erne, Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.
Geographically seen, the lake is divided in two parts each with its own characteristics.
Lough Erne, Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. It is 64 km (40 miles) long and has an average width of  8 km (5 miles) and a maximum depth of 60 m (200 feet) .
The lake consists of the shallower Upper Lough Erne, 19 km (12 miles) long, and the deeper Lower Lough Erne, 29 km 18 miles long, linked by a 16 km (10-miles) strait that is part of the River Erne. The lakes lie in an almost level carboniferous limestone plateau.

Fishing in the Upper Lough Erne is concentrated between Enniskillen and Newtown butler. For the specialist angler, Tench can be found in the weedy areas in the summer. Roach are everywhere and there are plenty of Bream, Pike, Perch, Eels and Trout!

When trolling, fishing rods and lines or hand lines only a maximum of:
four rods/lines are allowed in a boat occupied by two, three or more people
two rods/lines are allowed in a boat occupied by one person.

Before you go fishing you need a fishing license/permit & boat registration!
Any boats which have an engine of 10hp or more must have the boat registered with Waterways Ireland. Just fill in the on-line form, it’s free! Boat registration.
Once registered, you’ll need to display your unique registration number on the outside of your fishing boat.

For Pike and Perch you need a coarse license say 2 weeks will cost around the £ 9, same period a permit will cost around the £ 11
You can use 2 rods per person with this license.
For trout you need a game license say 2 weeks will cost you around the £ 9.
